Synthèse

This special issue seeks contributions that apply the Innovation System (IS) framework to address challenges in achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The IS framework, developed over four decades, provides a comprehensive approach to understanding how institutions, actors, and knowledge creation drive innovation within specific contexts. The editors recognize that while the IS framework has evolved through various forms—including national, regional, and sectoral systems—it remains flexible enough to tackle contemporary sustainability challenges.

The call welcomes both theoretical and empirical contributions, ranging from case studies to global analyses, that explore how innovation systems can support progress toward the 17 UN SDGs. Topics may address government policies, entrepreneurial dynamics, institutional roles, regional interactions, social innovation, and technology development. Contributions should consider methodological approaches and policy implications relevant to sustainability transitions at multiple scales.
