Digital technologies have transformed entrepreneurship by enabling new ventures and business models, but this digital reliance has simultaneously increased cybersecurity risks for entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurial firms handling substantial sensitive data have become attractive targets for cyber-attacks, with potential consequences ranging from direct financial losses and operational disruption to reputational damage, customer loss, and regulatory penalties that could ultimately lead to venture failure.
Despite growing recognition of cybersecurity's importance in entrepreneurship, academic research on this intersection remains limited. This special issue seeks empirical contributions including case studies and comparative analyses across organizations and technologies, as well as conceptual papers examining the relationships between adaptive threats, supply chain vulnerabilities, privacy concerns, regulatory compliance, and incident response. The aim is to advance knowledge and develop strategies for secure digitalization in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
