This special issue addresses how Product Lifecycle Management systems must evolve to support Industry 5.0's three foundational principles: human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience. Traditional PLM systems, designed primarily for data integration and process efficiency, lack mechanisms to support operator well-being, embed circular economy strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, or enable rapid adaptation during disruptions.
The special issue introduces PLM 5.0 as a strategic governance platform that integrates lifecycle data, human interaction, sustainability metrics, and adaptive decision-making across industrial ecosystems. It seeks conceptual, empirical, methodological, and case-based contributions that explore how PLM systems should be redesigned, how organizations can integrate circular economy principles, what governance frameworks are needed, and how manufacturing can build resilience through lifecycle management.
