This special issue investigates how organizations and society create and realize value from ICT and AI technologies beyond their initial adoption phase. While prior research has focused extensively on adoption decisions, this collection addresses understudied post-adoption dynamics including continuance, adaptation, and routinization. The issue recognizes that technology adoption alone does not guarantee organizational or societal benefits, necessitating deeper understanding of how sustained technology use generates value and drives transformation.

The special issue welcomes empirical, theoretical, experimental, design science, and review-based research examining post-adoption phenomena, value realization, and transformation at individual, organizational, and societal levels. It seeks to balance exploration of positive impacts with critical examination of risks and challenges, including ethical concerns, digital inequality, cybersecurity threats, and unintended consequences of widespread ICT and AI deployment. Novel perspectives on early-stage adoption are also welcome when they offer new theoretical insights or address emerging technologies.
