Kannan Govindan, University of Southern Denmark

This special section addresses the integration of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into operations research and supply chain management. Organizations worldwide need to align their strategies with sustainability objectives to address resource depletion, pollution, and poverty. The collection seeks research that applies advanced operations research methods—such as multi-attribute and multi-objective decision making—to analyze and implement SDGs within supply chain environments at macro and organizational levels.

The special section welcomes contributions exploring three main themes: stakeholder-driven policy and design for SDGs; innovative strategies and practices for implementing sustainable supply chain management; and monitoring supply chain governance with respect to SDG targets. Research should demonstrate how optimization models and algorithms can improve data-driven decision-making, promote resource conservation, and support transitions toward more sustainable futures while addressing economic, environmental, and societal dimensions of supply chains.
