Digital technologies like AI and blockchain create significant value but also introduce serious challenges including algorithmic bias, privacy violations, and workforce disruption. The special issue seeks research on information systems that are simultaneously responsible—fair, transparent, ethical, and accountable—and resilient, capable of withstanding disruptions while delivering sustained value.

While responsibility and resilience in digital systems are interdependent, they have largely evolved as separate research streams. Information systems scholars are uniquely positioned to examine human–technology interaction, value realization from digital investments, and how governance shapes digital outcomes, particularly for vulnerable populations. The special issue invites theoretically grounded, methodologically rigorous research using diverse methods including conceptual work, surveys, experiments, and design science approaches.
