The special issue examines how people engage with and adapt to AI systems over time, moving beyond simple adoption metrics to understand the diverse ways users interact with AI technologies. It emphasizes that human-AI interaction involves reciprocal processes where users and systems mutually influence each other through repeated interactions, potentially creating feedback loops that reshape both human behaviour and AI responses.

The collection seeks interdisciplinary research on interaction profiles, trajectories, and dynamics across different users, technologies, and contexts. It welcomes empirical studies, longitudinal investigations, and theoretical contributions that explore users' motivations, how AI design features shape engagement patterns, and the consequences of different interaction trajectories for cognitive, social, occupational, educational, and psychological wellbeing outcomes.
