Unethical labour practices, including modern slavery, affect approximately 50 million people worldwide and are expected to worsen due to regional conflicts and restrictive migration policies. Although digital technologies such as blockchain, AI, and cloud computing show promise in addressing these issues, research examining their specific applications remains limited. This special issue seeks to bridge this gap by exploring how digital technologies can be leveraged theoretically and empirically to monitor, detect, report, and remediate unethical labour practices.

The call invites original, theory-driven research using diverse methodologies including theoretical frameworks, case studies, surveys, and literature reviews. Submissions should identify specific digital technologies and provide nuanced insights into how they can combat labour exploitation and support human rights. Particularly encouraged are studies that challenge existing paradigms, explore underexamined dimensions, or offer innovative perspectives that inform policymakers and practitioners on leveraging technology for meaningful change.
